Anna University Tamil Nadu downfall

There has been a great downfall in the quality of education in Tamil Nadu, mainly the engineering sector pioneered by the Anna University. The main reason for this is the scrapping of the entrance examinations. The State Board syllabus has always been too bookish. The people who generally did well were those who had learned the book thoroughly - whether they understand the concepts involved was not a priority. The entrance exams though had a little bit of twisting involved and could separate the real brains. The removal of the exam brought down the education system by more than a couple of notches. Now all you had to do was mug up the book and get centum in everything to be assured a good seat in the university. Even if we disregard this, another problem rearing its head is that there are atleast a 1000 people in the same rank. The only way to distinguish them then is the ever fair date of birth and random number. This system has led to the loss of a number of talents in the state. It is really unfair to these people and they are in a great dilemma. Though it all looks pretty bleek, only solution I could think of would be to write all India entrance examinations and try to prove their mettle.

Mediator series - Meg Cabot

I have been reading books all my life and I wanted books which bring something "New and exciting". The first set of books that impressed me much is the Harry Potter Series. It took me to a different world all together and the plots were sublime. When the last book was released it was like a chapter closing in my life. I was in search of books that could give me the same excitement. There were a number of books like the twilight series or the LOTR series but they did not satisfy my preference. That is when I came across the Meg Cabot series. Though aimed for people much younger than myself I quite liked the different storyline. The series is based upon a young girl Suzanne, who has to help ghosts move on to their next life. The only problem is that she falls in love with the ghost in her room. Suzanne is quite a girl-of-action and is quite stupid at times landing her in all kinds of trouble. She has a priest (who is also a mediator) to help her out.He is quite against her violent principles and along with her three step brothers provide quite a bit of comedy. The book is quite interesting because it brings something fresh to our minds but I have to say it is quite girlish and targeted towards the teenagers. All in all quite a unique series.

FIFA 2010 - Fall of the heroes Messi Ronaldo Kaka

The world cup began with great expectations from Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Kaka. What has been their actual impact??? Very little. We are almost at the semi - final stage but all these heroes have fallen by the wayside with their country. There are many people who are not great fans of football but watch the world cup because of all the hype. They expect great things from the heroes but they have been let down. Ronaldo, Messi and Kaka are really good players. Watching their moves is truly awesome but why then did they not fire. I think that one thing that has hindered them is their size. The teams which have done well Netherlands, Germany or even take Switzerland in the first stage. These teams are made up of a number of large people for defence and the heroes try as much as they can to break the wall. It is a battle between David and Goliath but this time Goliath has won. The game is now being taken over by brawn rather than skill or style. No offence to these teams, they really do play well but the beauty is missing. For me personally the only remaining team with the classic play is Spain and I will be routing for them. Go Spain Go, Charm us with your magic.

The dreaded interview

The placement process upto the interview is just a mere formality. If you clear the aptitude you are virtually through to the interview stage. This is the stage where the company is going to separate the Men from the Boys [Or Women from the Girls!!!]. You have two stages:
1. Technical Interview
2. HR interview
Phase 1:Technical
This is the most difficult part of the entire campus selection process. Here you will be drilled with technical questions from your area of expertise or more likely it is based on what the interviewer is strong in. To prepare for this you need to know the basics of your subject like data structures, networks and algorithms. If you are clear with the basics, you should be able to answer the questions quite easily. If the questions seem too difficult it is better to state truthfully that you do not know rather than try something foolish. You can always say that you are not comfortable with so and so area but be polite always. One more tip is if you are going to answer wrongly atleast answer wrongly CONFIDENTLY.But remember too much of a good thing is bad so too much confidence- obviously over-confidence. So do not try to be smarter than the interviewer, they wil not like it.Do not get tensed up before the interview, after all the interviewer is a human being. He is not likely to eat you up. Be calm and confident and you are through.
Phase 2:HR
Once you clear the technical,HR is very easy. They just ask questions to test your attitude. It is better to be straight forward to the interviewer. Sometimes the HR interviewer will try to stress you out. Never burst out in anger. Just point out the fault in a diplomatic manner. They want to test your temper so better keep cool.

Ultimately the three Cs--->Calm Confident and Cool. That is all you need.

Campus Interview Preparation

Everyone entering into final year of a B.E course will have a thought foremost on their minds i.e., campus interviews. Three years of trudging in B.E does not prepare us a bit for these interviews. So what is the skill that is required?? Here's my opinion (I am not an expert but I just got placed last year so that should count). You should have atleast one area of expertise and something to show for it. You could do this by maybe doing a project or taking a course or even certification. This done your next step would be to prepare for the actual placement process. Most companies start of with the aptitude test. The time needed for preparation depends of how smart you are but the minimum duration would be a week and the maximum maybe a month.Aptitudes are of two types:purely numerical [quantative] and the rest. I suggest you concentrate on the rest more than the numerical. Books for this are R.S Agarwal and Sakunthala Devi. You could also take the many free aptitude tests online. If the company that is coming for interview also has a technical round it is better to freshen up your C with Yeshwanth Kanetkar. Concentrate on pointers cause that is where the majority of questions lies.Next we come to the group discussions which are supposed to test your English. Dont sweat it out if your English is not too good. These are mainly to check your courage and attitude and almost 99% people can clear this round easily. Finally the interviews. That will be my next blog :)

Liu's waldorf - pork restaurant

If you are looking for a good Chinese restaurant near tidel park or even in Chennai, I would recommend the Liu's Waldorf. This hotel sits very near Madhya Kailash on the Sardar Patel Road. The dishes in this place are quite different from the dishes we see in most Chinese restaurants in Chennai. Its speciality is its pork dishes and the taste is really good. The quantity of food given is large so you need a pretty big appetite to finish it. For people with normal appetites like myself, it is better to go with a gang of friends and try the various dishes in store. The price is a little high but for the amount of food I think it is quite right. So if you are looking for pork in Chennai, Liu's Waldorf is the place for you.

Nokia N97 mini cellphone review

I bought the n97 mini a few months ago and I thought I would just write a review about it since its fairly new to the market. This cellphone is a more compact model of the N97 and has many similar features. The look is really great and I have the garnet colour one. It is a touch screen phone and has a side slide qwerty keyboard. There is gap between each key thus making it quite easy to type. The touch keypad is also pretty good but since the keyboard is really nice, the touch pad need not be used too much. All in all the touch experience though it may not be as good as an iphone is really neat. The best part of this cellphone is its 5 MP camera. The clarity is really awesome. It also has a good music player The 3g experience is also good though adding too many applications slows down the phone considerable. All in all I would recommend it to anyone who has a little extra cash to spend.
